You Wanna be a Producer?
Producers are individuals and businesses who help underwrite all or part of the cost of a production through a tax deductible donation. OJP thanks producers by giving them credit in the program and advertisements, offering free tickets, bespoke jingle about your business in our holiday show, fun walk on role opportunities, and for Season Producers we can even create bespoke performances, host an event at our theater, conduct workshops and more. Producers make live local theatre productions and programs possible.
Producing theater is expensive. Theatre is an art form that can include multiple other visual and performing arts. Aside from the cast even a small production can require the work of dozens of other artists from directors, musicians, choreographers, lighting, scenic and sound designers, costume and make-up artists, production management and production crew running each performance. Additionally the “front of the house” requires people to help clean, staff box office, greet and usher patrons, and staff for the concessions bar, Months before the first line is said on stage graphic designers, publicists, videographers, photographers, and social media coordinators are at work letting the public know about the upcoming production. Of course, there are also staff members running payroll, bookkeeping, managing HR issues… Whew! Before you know it, and even with lots of frugality and penny pinching, a small production’s costs can add up to $60-$90k. A larger cast musical will cost $140,000+ even with a wonderful co-producer like Pomona College providing in-kind support.
Volunteers Rock!
At OJP we love volunteers. We think they are magical beings made of light. As a thank you, volunteers get to see the performance for free and enjoy a free snack at concessions. Volunteering at OJP can range from helping with front of house stuff like running the bar or being an usher, helping set up and greet people, helping put up posters and give out postcards in town, putting together mailings, staffing booths and tables at the Midsummer Musical and at fundraising or public outreach events, helping with Social Media, and for the handy among you, we always need some help with small maintenance projects around the theater. We even need a volunteer to help organize our volunteers!
Give the Gift that Keeps on Giving
Have you considered gifting your community, friends and family with the gift of live local theatre and music even after you’re gone? Legacy giving can help OJP meet important goals like raising funds for a permanent home in Claremont or adjacent LA County cities. Not only is LA County the home of OJP founders, Beatrice Casagran and Randy Lopez, but the largest percentage of audience, artists, and other people we serve come from LA County. A home in LA County assures that OJP will have access to important funding sources not available in other jurisdictions. Legacy gifts can help make this important goal a reality. Legacy gifts can also be used to cover other extraordinary expenses such as upgrading aging equipment, and lastly it can help fund programs to serve the community into the future. If OJP’s work brings you joy, please consider paying it forward through a legacy gift of any size. You can access more information about setting up legacy gifts by clicking below.
