In The Slow Drag, Jazz cornet player Johnny Christmas, during the last few seconds of life, relives his career in jazz, his tempestuous common law marriage with love of his life, June Wedding, and his friendship with pianist Chester Kent a biracial man who has also lived a lie, passing as white so he can have a career without the racism and segregation faced by black artists. This is a musical packed with jazz standards about three individuals who lived and lied for their music.
